Looking good.
Championship material?
Scotcher needs to get his boots on and recapture that glory from days of yore (One more shot at glory...... One more shot....).

Second throwing a winning position away to end up only drawing. A bit remeniscent of last season! Hopefully they'll learn from this and not let three points slip from their grasp again.

Perhaps the Honley Recer ought to be a little more positive and try not to reminisce so much. I'm sure the players don't need reminding of last years events.......and i'm sure the new players to the club don't give a toss about it!! This is a new season, might be better to give it a little longer than one game before you start castigating them.

Actually Racer, you're right. The boys deserve all the stick that's coming to them. To throw away three points like that is disgraceful.

A good result for the second team against Shepley who finished runners up in this league last season. However this result was at the expense of the Third team who had players taken by Scotcher, the ethos of the club is the seconds take priority over the Thirds this is at the expense of morale as shown in the result. The 3rd team had 10 men against a very good side in Aimbry, of those 11, 2 had retired 4 seasons ago so did well to walk never mind play!!. The lack of players apparently is down to the overlap with the cricket season which finishes this week. By then the 3rd team will have played 2 of the top teams in the league with the reality of 0 points if we have the same turnout again this week and the demands from the 2nds we will have a hard season ahead. The 3rd team demonstrated a will to compete and win last season shown in the results in the cup beating Kirkheaton from the division our second team are in,giving a battaling performance against the winners of the cup and the Reserve Division 1 winners again the same division as our 2nd team. Hopefully things will get better, players will return to the 2nds and let the 3rd team get on with the season as there is a very fine line between the 2 teams in the terms of the players (as shown by the need for 3rd team players for the 2nds) and the divisions.

That's just how it is. it's always been like this and it wont change because that is how a club with three teams will operate. You know that, and I know that. Whinging about it wont change a thing.

The club does very well in the administration of running 3 teams and making sure we have 11 players at kick off accepted. To say its "always been this way" is the answer I was expecting as for "whinging" you must have missed the saliant points around morale etc. I am proud to represent honley and as such do not like to see 11-0 hammerings with 10 men.

I understand, but what could have changed on saturday? The seconds only had eleven as it was.

Observer, some good points that are highly relevant. However as has been stated this is how Honley as a three-team club will run. You have to accept that the firsts will take from the seconds, and the seconds will take from the thirds, if this means that the thirds are left short then this is an unfortunate consequence.
What could a solution be to the situation that occurred last week? The seconds were short because players were required for the first team (and played a very important role in the victory over Shepley), the team from which success for the club as a whole is measured. The seconds had only eleven fit players. This meant that the thirds could only possibly have ten players, no two ways about it. No other players were available. True the club could have had some foresight and 'tapped' up occasional players, but fearing that this was a likely scenario at the beginning of a new the season the third team ‘stalwarts’ could have played an active role themselves in recruiting 'lost' players (if attempts by those involved were made (and I can see that in some respects they were successful) then I apologise). I understand the demotivational effect of turning out with ten men but this could not have been avoided on this occasion.
Now if the club needs new players then they could possibly build closer ties with the junior teams of the village (something which incidentally should be explored greater in the future anyway) but other than that those players who are most likely to miss out due to the progression of players between teams could play an active role in recruiting work colleagues, or former players. If these attempts are continually going on with varying degrees of success, and Saturday was an unfortunate blip, then one can’t really complain. It is just one of those things, and I’m sure the senior members of the team accept that this is likely to happen throughout a season whilst playing in the lowest priority team at the club (I don’t mean to offend anyone).
Anyway, keep your chin up and knuckle down to some decent football. After all we want to enjoy the game the best we can, this is the whole reason for playing in the first place. Hopefully this situation won’t happen again (I can’t remember the last time prior to Saturday that it did). I suggest that we all get recruiting as many people as possible, all attend training where possible, and all pull in the same direction for Honley FC.
