What do players feel about new players getting the nod over players that have played at the club for years. Should it all be about ability? Should old players get the nod in a fifty fifty situation as a reward for years of good service? Should new players have to start at the bottom and work there way up? or should there reputation be used at first and then sorted into the correct side/position after there ability is evident? what are your views? just wondering

It depends. If someone comes with a reputation that is backed up by others at the club then this will influence at what level they play at. Others will have the once over my the management at training sessions. Young lads will usually be bled through the system (we've all been there). Other factors may come into play though at the time of selection e.g. current form of players, fitness level, prospect, instructions from others etc. In an 'everything equal' situation thouh you'd think selection would go to the established player.

In response to the posted question on new players reputations and the team they initially play for at Honley. Allow me to share with you a recentish event at a then Premiership club, Robbie Fowler came with a massive reputation to Leeds United for £11 million, this then forced the sale of Robbie Keane who was scoring for fun with Leeds top of the League at the time. Fowler really showed how crap he was over the subsequent months with Keane moving to Tottenham and finishing the top scorer with only 4 months at the club. Fowler as we know was moved on and has been equally S***e at City. I guess what I am eluding to is give people a chance on their reputation but not at the expense of proven players.
God Bless.

What about this new player Richard Bray? Why has he been made captain and walked straight into the team?
Personally I have never heard of him.

I agree with club captain Batts.
Everybody arrives at the first pre-season training session as an equal. Their ability, ambition, fitness and potential is then assessed by the management.
It is then a management decision as to who will represent each team, who will be involved in which friendlies/match days, who should take corners, free-kicks, dead balls .... (you get the picture) and who should be the representative player that flips the coin before each game.
Here's a little equation that every good coach evaluates before making the hard decision of whom to pick. It should stand anybody in good stead for the season and hopefully banish any doubt with regard to decisions already made.
P=P-I (Performance = Potential-Influence).
Basically, if you're already questioning influential decision by the Honley management, then your performance has already been affected, knuckle down and show em!

Performance = Potential + Effort + Influence

Nice concept Batts - Unfortunately not in disgruntled squad mans case! AND for any of the Honley players that think they can get away with getting hammered the night before a bit game, in this case it wouldn't be Performance = Potential - Influence (beer) as much as Performance = Potential + Under the Influence. ;D

There should be no one getting P I S S E D the night before any game!! No matter who were playing, surely it can wait until Saturday!!!
If we want to win owt this year then we all need to be fit and have us game heads on and not be F U * K E D.
Sorry for the bad language Batts!!!

It's official - Mark Berry, formerly of Brooks, Kirkheaton and in more recent seasons (until this week!) Storthes Hall has signed for the club and will be featuring in games from next Wednesdays friendly against Holmebridge.
A solid tackler, good in the air, great reader of the game and as mentioned before an excellent distributor - QUALITY signing.

He is a good player.
But Bloody hell, where is he going to fit in? We now have four decent centre backs in the first team!!!

There's gonna be a right bunch of decent players this season.
At the weekend, we counted 23 possible first team players!
Not bad eh?

Once the 4-4-2 formation is adopted we'll need every defender we can get!
